Default K-1 "Administrative Review" at the NVC?

Our K-1 visa application was approved at the USCIS on March 21st (about
5 weeks ago), and has been at the NVC ever since. When I call and talk
to the operators there, they tell me that the case is still in
"administrative review" and is still going through the normal "post
September 11th" processing time. According to most of the information I
can find, our application should've been forwarded to the embassy
(Guangzhou, China) by now! Anyone had experience with this? Is there
anything that I can do? Should I be preparing for bad news?

Dwight

Hi Dwight,

I don't know about China, but my fiance's file was held up at NVC for 3 months for "security check, admin review". He is Iranian. You might encounter the same delay. But other than that, the rest of his process went smoothly.

I called NVC every Friday afternoon for 3 months, until I heard the magic words "your case has been forwarded to the embassy!"

Best Wishes,
Rene

Dwight,

I haven't heard this complaint for quite some time now, but maybe 1-2
years ago or so I used to read all the time about how approved
petitions for nationals of China, Russia, and a number of middle-east
countries spent months rather than weeks at the NVC due to a higher
level of security checking. I thought the 'special treatment' had gone
away, but perhaps not.

I also read frequently that it can take a long time for the approved
applications to reach the consulate in Guangzhou (the embassy is in
Beijing). The shipments apparently can get held up for quite a while
in the Chinese customs house before being released or sent on to the
consulate.

Regards, JEff
