I am currently waiting on an interview date for my CR1 visa. My medical was three weeks ago so Im expecting to hear soonish.
However I will be going over to the USA (on vwp) next weekend for the OH's birthday - spending about 10days out there.
Im probably being paranoid but im worried that the interview letter could turn up when Im out there and have a date prior to my return...I appreciate most interviews seem to be a minimum of a few weeks between the letter and the actual date but if this did happen I wouldnt know until I returned.
I did request a date after my return on the letter I sent with the other forms.
If by some horrible twist of fate this does happen, does it really mean i have abaondonned the process....would there be a way to appeal that considering I told them I would be away and specifically requested a later date
thanks

what you could do is, when you're in the usa, call up the premium number (expensive, i know) and ask them if the date is on the system yet.. if it is, and it falls in the days you're stateside, get them to rearrange it on the phone or get the email address and code to get a new date for when you return
honestly, don't worry!

Yes.
The chances of that happening are so slim, you're more likely to get hit by lightning.
Why not have someone check on the mail for you while you're gone?

Why would you want to call that number from the US, when there is a standard number to call in the US, which has access to all the information. Plus you don't have to worry working out time zones.
Your suggestion is poor advice, the OP should call the Dept of State in Washington (202) 663-1225.
