International Student Dilemma
International Student Dilemma :
Would it be ok If I received I20 from school A and then once in US I
would go to school B ? Let us assume I got accepted in both schools A
and B but the problem is about the processing time all that paperwork
for F1 visa application in school B. I have applied to school B way to
late and they say that even if accepted they may not be able to issue
visa documents for me.
What if the two graduate programs have different length i.e. it takes
three semesters to receive a graduate diploma at school A but it takes
four semesters to receive graduate diploma at school B.
Do they register I20 forms somehow? I am just afraid that at the POE
Immigration officer will say boy we got two I20 issued under your
Social Security Number (Yes, I got it from previous J1 trips to US)
what is on your mind ?
Every visa requires adequate entry intent. F1 intent is kinda dual but
anyways it is about studying but what if at the POE I knew already
that I am not going to enroll to college A but I am going straight to
Registrar of the college B. My F1 however was issued thanks to I20
from college A. Would that be no problem ?
Thanks to your great input on that NG I have learnt a great deal of
useful information that will help me while being confronted with
former INS at any stage of my relationship with US. I keep reading
thanx !!!!

Re: International Student Dilemma
I'm not an expert but I believe the way it works is that you need an I-20
when using the F-1. It doesn't need to be the same I-20, it just needs to be
valid. So I don't think it's an issue so long as you can get an I-20 from
the second school. But, like I said, that might not be correct and you would
be better off asking at alt.visa.us since this groups deals with
marriage-based visas.

Re: International Student Dilemma
Your I-20 MUST be from the school you are attending. If you get an I20 from one school and then dont show up cos you go to a different one, the BCIS will be notified and they will possible deport you (at the worst). Even if the first school has issued you an I20, you can send it back and WITHDRAW - and then accept an I20 from the second school.
The other option is to TRANSFER once you are in the US. But that will prob. mean completing at least one semester at the first school before you can transfer. The best people to speak to are the International Student people at the school you REALLY want to go to.
Good luck!
