I751 send in actual greencard?!
On April 17 (I filed my I751 on March 20 and got NOA with extension a
few weeks after that) I got a letter in the mail from Gregory W
Christian, acting director of the US Citizenship and immigration
services for the Nebraska service center.
It specificially says that my case has not yet been reviewed by an
immigration officer.
It asks me to send the letter back with:
- any documentation relevant to establish that our marriage was entered
into good fait (like I had not already done so?!)
- two color, full frontal passport style photographs
- my original greencard or if unable to submit the cards, submit an
explanation why
It says to make copies of the card and letter and mail it to Nebraska
Service Center. It also says that the service processing goal is six
months and my response will assist the USCIS and service center to
complete processing within this time frame.
Has anybody received this letter also and can anybody explain to me why
they are doing this? Does it mean, for example, that I will not need to
appear in an office with the passport photos etc? It looks like that,
right?
Also, my grandmother in the Netherlands is not doing well right now. In
case her condition deteriorates, am I able to get back in the US,
having submitted the original of my greencard to the USCIS??? What do I
need as proof of my permanent resident status?
I am especially interested in your opinions about sending back the
original greencard. I never heard of this practise before and am a
little uncomfortable sending my original greencard. However, if it will
speed up the process...???
Your input will surely be appreciated. Thanks!!!

Several others have received the same letter.
Comply as quickly as possible, and submit exactly what is asked for. Yes, include your original green card and be sure to make a front and back copy for yourself.
You will receive your new green card in the mail within the six months specified.

And maybe they won't ;-)
With USCIS there is no guarantees on anythng. Those, however, who have followed instructions have received the green card.

Re: I751 send in actual greencard?!
I filed I-751 early in March, but have not received yellow letter. I am starting to believe the yellow letter was misdelivered. We were on vacation beginning of April and had our mail on hold. I do not know if that affected anything. Could you tell me the address they gave in the yellow letter to send the original green card? Do you think I should send my card to that letter anyway?
Thanks, .
