In question #7 of the I-134, it asks "I have on deposit in savings banks in the
United States ____". Does this refer to savings accounts only, or would a checking
account be included in this? I only have a $500 savings account, and I am worried
that maybe this would be considered the entirety of the money I have saved if this
field also included checking accounts.

If you qualify on income alone, you do not need to include this information. However,
if you include it, the small amount will not hurt you, presuming that your income is
sufficient.

Alvena -
Where on the form or in the instructions does it state this? I've heard that if you
meet the income requirement you don't need to get the bank letters and stuff like
that either, but I can not find anywhere that the INS acknowledges this. I'd be
grateful if you could provide this reference.
BTW, I took "on deposit in savings banks" to mean any kind of account (trust,
checking, savings, etc) at an institution where the money is yours and for your use -
they are just holding it for you. The main difference between checking and savings is
only how you can access the money and that is not important to the INS in my opinion.
Thanks, Shana

It does not state this on the form instructions per se, however the form is generally
submitted along the same financial guidelines as the I-864 affidavit, which means
that if you have adequate income, you do not have to include asset information.

It is on the bottom of the first page of the I-134 pdf file I downloaded. I thought
that it would be needed, as my fiancee lives in China.
