Default I-130 Interview - Dress smart?

Hi all,

I finally have an interview date () which is June 9th - exciting times!

However, I was wondering would anyone like to share what the accepted dress code is?

I don't want to turn up looking too casual and give a bad impression, similarly I don't want to be the only one that looked like they are there for a job interview

Edit: This is at the US Embassy in London.

I think the the norm is "business casual" (i.e., not a 3-piece suit, but not jeans and a t-shirt). Although it really doesn't matter what you wear, you should just be clean and presentable. Dress comfortably for yourself, since you'll be hanging around a fair amount of time.

I had my K1 visa interview there in January and just about everyone was in 'jeans and t-shirt' kind of attire. The person interviewing you can only see you from your shoulders up anyway. Good luck.

Dress sharp!

I guess I am just old-fashioned that way, but I would never go to any kind of interview in jeans and t-shirt. You want to look like an upstanding candidate for US residency? Act like it!

My post-hippie beach bum wore a collared shirt and slacks. I wore a suit skirt and dress blouse (no hose, hey, it was Athens in August).

I'll be wearing clean, smart jeans, black shoes, and a polo shirt.

There is such a thing as "smart" jeans? Shoes worn with jeans? Hmmm and here I thought Brits lead the fashion parade.

When they cost $200+ per pair, they're smart.

I like the look of jeans worn with tractor-tread hiking boots. Very macho.

Oops...sorry...went a little OT there. LOL

Hi:

What's wrong with looking like you are there for a job interview? It strikes me that is a good standard to apply. The scuttlebutt has it that many Consular Officers admit that the ultimate result is often formed by first impressions.

I read the title of the thread and I though "Ahhh, us women, always worried about what to wear".. but you appear to be a bloke?

The interview is through a window so they'll only see your upper half..

Good luck btw..

I work for the State Government of Maine, we have a strict dress code, but we are allowed to wear work jeans, which means any color jeans except blue jeans, so as long as it isn't the "blue jean" material (Denim) you can wear them. Don't know if that helps any!
