Default How is the war going to affect EAD/AOS paperwork in NYC?

I am just curious if anyone has heard how long the time lines are now
for NYC EAD and AOS. I just filed the paperwork for my husband in
Feb. 2003. I have the yellow receipt and am waiting for EAD at the
moment. We are just so anxious for him to get his Social so he can
work so we're interested to hear of people's timelines as of late. It
seems like I filed the packet AGES ago, but it was only in Feb.

Also- regarding the A#...What is this and what is it used for. Should
it be on my returned checks? Thanks again everyone.

If he came here on a K-1, he can get his social security number now. If not, then he has to wait for the EAD which will take from now until 90 days. On day 91 he can take his copy of the paperwork and his receipt and get there to wait on line about 4 in the morning to be one of the first 50 in the line for EAD's.

Adjustment is taking 18 to 24 months. And this was all before the war started.

Rete is Right! The current waiting time for the EAD in Houston, TX us 90
days. Call the 1800 National line and give them your zip code and ask them
what the BCIS waiting time for the I-795 is, that should help.

Why would the war affect it?

Thanks for all of your help everyone. I don't know why I thought the
war would affect processing times to be honest. That's why I asked.
Thank's all, and 4am to be in the first 50 people...wow. We'll be
there though. Cheers all.

Unfortunately, you will probably not receive an EAD appointment
anytime soon. The current processing time for EADs at NYC is longer
than 120 days. My recommendation is to wait until 90 days have passed
since the date on your yellow receipt (but not a day sooner!) and
then, on the 91st day, walk-in for an EAD appointment at 26 Federal
Plaza. Currently, they are only processing 50 walk-ins per day so you
will have to stand in line all night in order to get in. I posted
another message detailing my recent walk-in experience.

Regarding the AOS, according to the most recent AILA (immigration
lawyer association) report, NYC is currently taking over 540 days to
process AOS applications. Realistically, this means that you will
probably get your interview appointment sometime in 2005.

I know this is outragious but there's really not a whole lot you can
do.
I also don't think this has got anything to do with the war in Iraq.
The situation at the NYC INS has been getting progressively worse
since 9/11.

Hang in there...

If you get there at 4am, chances are you will not get in! I was there
2 nights ago (4/8-4/9) and we had 50 EAD walk-ins in the line sometime
between 2:30 - 3:00am. If it weren't for the below-freezing
wind-chills and freezing rain, the 50 person cap would have been
reached well before that. My advice is to not take any chances and be
there around midnight. 2am might still cut it. Any time after 2am is a
risk.

Please read my other post for more information about the experience or
email me for a copy.

Alon, thank you for your helpful and brutally realistic timelines.
2005 seems far now but hopefully will approach quickly. We'll be in
line at 12am on the 91st day-- luckily it'll be warmer than it's been
here in NYC. Thank you so much. ~jen

Heh!!! I can second this opinion for Miami BCIS too!!!! I've been there twice, and both times I was there at around 10.30pm the night before, and there was already a long line by midnight. They don't do same day EAD's either, otherwise it'd be more than worth it!
