roughly....
and is it done by a dr or do you go hospital - and then do you have to pay more to the person that gives the xray???
Just having a debate with my friend about it..

If you go to a radiology place (not a hospital) and tell them you don't have insurance but need an x-ray, I'd guess around $50 a plate. Negotiate beforehand. And shop around.

I had some chest xrays in hospital come to about $500
They had to do it twice as I have very long lungs apparently
billing me twice of course ...
I was quite impressed with that scam .....

We had to pay for the xrays,
the person who took the xrays,
the person who read the xrays,
and the person who told us that they couldnt see anything on the xrays

Dunno about x-rays...I had fairly routine bloodwork taken at my annual exam a few weeks ago...cost $8K+.![EEK!](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif)
They sent the same bill twice...once in my name and once in my husband's name...so it looked like we'd both had bloodwork done. I soon put the insurance company right...didn't want the thieving gits (the laboratory) to be overpaid.

My son had an xray done at the drs. office. Luckily we were covered by insurance.

Many insurance companies negotiate lower prices with doctors and labs so an x-ray done under insurance, in network with a preferred doctor or lab is probably a lot cheaper that going in 'cash and carry.' Though if you call around a bit and just ask them the 'non-insurance price' you'll get some ballpark estimates from the doctor's offices.

I had x-rays on my ankle when I sprained it in Feb. They were done at the hospital (I think 4 plates worth) and the total cost for them and the doctor to look at my ankle was $1331.96. Of course that's not what they got paid, $100 from me and a a few hundred from my insurance.

BTW, the only time I've had x-rays taken since I moved to the US is of my teeth so that's done at the dentist, of course.
