Default How long does it take to remove the conditional status?

Hi!

Does anyone know how long it takes to remove the conditional status. I
have to file the application 90 days prior to the the expiration of my
conditional Green Card. My visa is based on marriage. We are still
married.

If I file and in the process of waiting, can I leave the country and
come back after my card expired?

Thanks!

It depends on what service center you are using, and their current processing times. The range seems to be several months to a year or so. But you can apply for citizenship as soon as you qualify, even if your I-751 is not adjudicated yet.

Yes, you'll receive a 1-year extension letter from USCIS. When you travel, bring that letter and your expired GC. Others have traveled with these documents with no problem.

Best Wishes,
Rene

Hi:

Answer #1 -- once you have the date of filing and the date of approval [or denial] of your invidual application, it is an easy arithmetical exercise to compute the time. Before you know BOTH dates, anyhting is pure speculation.

Answer #2 -- you remain a lawful permanent resident while the application is pending. You can travel.

Thanks for your replies!

One more question: how long does it usually take them to check whether
the form was filled out correctly and if I have all the documents and
send me the letter stating that my application is pending?
I live in Florida and I think the service center is in Texas.

When we applied to have my husband's conditions removed in January, they cashed our check and sent us a letter with the usual information about working, traveling, etc. all within 2 weeks of receiving the paperwork. Here is a link to check processing times.

Yep, I'd say around 2 weeks seems to be the norm around here, judging by the posts made.

I am also in Florida and filed I-751 at Texas. They cashed my money order the day after they got my package, but I haven't got my NOA as yet. They only got my package on 4/10, though, so I'm not panicking yet.

Considering some of the horror stories I have heard, the service center in
San Antonio seems very efficient. My dealings with them have been very
smooth and timely.
