Honeymoon Cruise for K-1ers?
I'm trying to be optimistic and do some wedding planning, and I was
looking at honeymoon options. Is a honeymoon cruise an option for
someone who is on a K-1 visa? The tie-up that I was thinking about is
whether or not she could get off the boat in some island in the
Caribbean, or if that's a problem. Any ideas?
Thanks!

If you file AOS right after the marriage you could file AP before you take the honeymoon - that's an option.

Cruise with Advance Parole is not a problem. We just got back from our
honeymoon in the Caribbean. But you need to research where you will need
visa (i don't know from which country your loved one is), cause your loved
one is still citizen of other country then US.
Just don't leave without Travel document - Advance Parole!!!

That is correct, but I was under the impression that the OP was talking
about right after the wedding and without a AP.

Actually, my fiance and I had been discussing getting married on a Hawaiian cruise that has a stop at Fanning Island in the Kiribati Republic. Being a bit paranoid, I called the INS/BCIS/USCIS/whatever they will be next week and asked if this would be a problem. They told me that entering another country, even if we did not get off the ship, would invalidate his K1 visa. So I guess it's that cute little hotel on Maui and a beach wedding for us!

NCL will have an American flagged ship this summer according to this
report. Then, there will be no problem with cruises domestically in Hawaii.

The drafting of law school or legal specialization test questions is a difficult task. I want to let you know that I am quite impressed with your question -- it is succinct and addresses so many basic issues in the immigration law, many of which are quite complicated. I think your question could easily take 90 minutes to answer in an examination situation.
I will pass this on to two colleagues who teach immigration law in law school for possible use. On their behalf, thank you for posting your question.
BTW, court cases arise from "problems" which the courts are called upon to solve.

DHS still follows the long time practice that travel from the mainland to Hawaii is NOT an immigration admission. However, one of the issues that would be discussed on that law exam would be the effect of the 1996 law which, among other things, repealed the long standing statutory definition of "entry" and replaced it with "admission."
I'm not all that sure that a trip to Hawaii would be "safe."

Because of all these various issues, my fiance and I are planning a honeymoon in a cabin on the shore in Maine, near Acadia National Park.
We're actually lucky to have a family trip (for my dad's 60th birthday) planned to Hawaii the January after the wedding so we'll get our beach time in then. It wasn't worth the risk to try to go elsewhere.

You will not regret staying in Maui!! I got married in Sept last year, and wanted to go to Greece desparately for my honeymoon. I'm not a K1 - so was slightly different situation since I was already here in the US on another visa - but I too am paranoid, so gave up Greece idea for Maui - which was PERFECT. Wow - it is one of the most magical places on earth. Where abouts are you getting married? We stayed at the Grand Wailea - there were weddings there every day...
Get the "Maui Revealed" guide book - it tells you everything you could ever want to know. Rent a car and do lots of driving - you wont regret it.
ENJOY!!!!
