Default Here on a K1, not working out, want to stay here........What can I do??

I came here on a K1 on 16th March 2001.
It's not working out, but my employer wants to keep me here.
My permanent residency card is valid until June 2004.
What I am wanting to do is this.
Move out and get me own place and give it 6 months to see if I still
want to stay in the US.
If after this time I wish to stay my employer says he will hire an
attorney to get the visa changed.
I'd rather stay here for 6 months first before he wastes his money,
making sure I want to stay.

So can I go ahead and stay while my permanent residency is valid?
We aren't going to get divorced until I know whether I am staying or
not.
Wondering if the INS check up at all?

Any replies please email to [email protected]

Thanks

Steve
