HepB
#1
Hi guys,
We were just wondering if everyone has to have the HepB shot for the AOS regardless of their age. We are going to an INS Civil Surgeon to have the vaccination supplement completed.
My husband has had the MMR, and Td vaccinations and has tested positive for the Varicella (chickenpox) vaccination.
We keep going over the HepB. It seems like some doctors insist that you have it. However, my husband is from the UK and on his embassy(consulate) vaccination checklist it says not age appropriate. So, our question is, why would the INS Civil Surgeon demand him to have the HepB shot if it is not age appropriate. I've read various links in regards to this vaccine but does anyone with recent experience have any info.
Thanks in advance.

There was a thread from about two weeks ago where we discussed the HepB a bit. The link below will take you to my post (within the thread) where I asked specifically about the HepB:

Be sure to read "Kjdrga's" responses to my post, where she touches on the HepB issue directly.
I don't know if that will help, but it may give you at least a little bit of insight. Hopefully she'll post an update here, too.

We haven't gone to the INS doctor yet but will in the next couple of weeks. I am going to be taking the test results that show my husband is already immune to HepB and therefore would not need to recieve the series. I will though ask if they do require it for those that are not age appropriate.
I would not worry so much about the HepB as they really don't try to administer it to those that are age appropriate because it can cause certain health risks. If they suspect that their could be a reason for it, e.g. that you have been exposed to it, they would then probably do it. But that would come after a series of conversations I imagine and you could have the series given to you by your health dept which would be cheaper I believe. I'll keep you all posted.

I had the AOS medical a couple of weeks ago and I didn't get anywhere
near the HepB. The doc said that the only ones they'd give those to
are school children and/or if you've working in healthcare (But then
you might have gotten it already anyway)

Ok,
We just got back from the BCIS Civil Surgeon as listed on the website for the SF office and had the vaccination supplement form completed. My husband did not need the HepB nor the varicella. In fact the supplement looks very very very similar to the document that he received at the London Medical.
I can't believe we had to waste time and money to get it done when it's exactly the same information, yet a different layout.
The good news is, is that it only cost $20.
We originally submitted the AOS forms with a copy of the London Medical form, which like I said is relatively the same as the supplement. However, we are concerned that BCIS will return the whole package just for this supplement. So, we have gone ahead and had it done... I know we should have done it originally but at least we're ready now if it does come back.
Thanks,
Kat and Chris

Myself and 9 year old son just completed our medical exam this week. I did not have to have Hep B as it is as age exempt (I believe it is 18 or 19 upwards). My son did have to have it and has had now had the first of three (the second to be in a month and the third to be five months after that). Due to the fact that we are hoping to be in US in July, the doctor mentioned that he was putting a waiver down on the form (I suppose to show that the course was started and I assume therefore when it comes to AOS and I have to file a vaccination supplement I would simply have to show the completed course then).

When Ian was 2.5 I asked his pediatrician if he needed a HepB shot, he told me no. (this was in my small hometown). I did this on the advice of my sister who works for a pediatrician in Chicago and stated that they were going to become manditory. Well a year later the pediatrician (not remembering our conversation) tells me Ian needs to start the HepB series. For if he didn't do it now, he'd have to at 12. Thank goodness I did it back then, because they do now require them for 12 year olds as part of their jabs for school. The reason I was told back eons ago (Ian will be 13 in 12 days) was that they need it before they are sexually active as it can be sexually transtmitted. (shrugs)
