HELP US PLEASE I485 Confusion!
We have some questions can anyone help us?
1. On the part 1 of I 485 should we use my wifes maiden name as family name
or should we use her married name (she is here on a j-1 visa which expired
on oct 19 ) we married here on sept 29.
2.what do we put for current INS status and expiration date on the I 485
form.
3. What does it mean was she inspected by us immigration officers?
4. Where can we find the nonimmigrant visa number?
Plus if anyone has some helpful info we would appreciate it!
Also my wife is from Poland and we live in NY

On your yellow form is your wife's new name, use that one.

My form I-485 only asked for the status I entered the US, so I gave the the
expiration date on that visa.

If you showed your passport to an officer. Most probably you did.

That's the number on your visa, mine is 8 digits and printed in red, just
above the 2 lines with my name and numbers on the bottom of my visa.

If you are already married and marriage cert shows change of name, put
married name (attach certiifcate). IN "names previously used" put
maiden name.

You put J1, or whatever she is. If there is expiration date on her
I-94, put it. If there is 'DOS" (duration of status" -- on her I-94, I
do not know --put "DOS" maybe or whatever, N/A. I am against leaving
it blank though.
> 3. What does it mean was she inspected by us immigration officers?
If she entered though some staffed port of entry -- airport, for
example, where there was an officer who looked at her passport and
stamped it, then she was inspected. I she swam across Rio Grande at
night and then walked to the nearest village without being caught by
border patrol, then she was not....

I do not have an I-485 in front of me....But I think I recall tere are
two diferent questions tere. One is for a number of her I-94 card, and
anotehr is for a visa number of the visa she originally possessed (ion
a orm o piece of paper glued into her passport) when she last entered
the country. That number is usually found on a physical visa itself. I
may be wrong on this one.
