I have been in the USA for almost a year and will like to know if there are any
companies which offer employment to students with a view of changing their status to
H1B. I am a qualified IT professional but I just seem not to get a job. Every company
demands an SS Number which I don't have. My current status is student.

If you have a bachelor's degree an employer can sponsor you for an H1-B. If not,
you're gonna have a hard time. If you're seeing economic hardship as a student and
want to get a non professional job to pay your bills, you can apply for employment
authorization based on severe economic hardship. Bear in mind that you can't work for
more than 20 hours per week with this type of employment authorization. Talk to your
student advisor in your school. They will best be able to help.
Otherwise, as a student on an F-1 visa you can engage in on campus employment at
your university, or off campus employment/training approved by your school and
directly related to your course of study. When you graduate then you can see about
getting an H1-B.
