Was your first wife also a USC? Perhaps they want her birth certificate or some other kind of ID like a drivers license, passport, or something. I think a lot depends on whether she was a USC or was from your own country and whether you were married here in the USA or back home.
Best Wishes,
Rene

If at all possible get a copy of the death certificate and have it
translated to English. That should be all you need. We had to do that
for our K-1 interview and there was no problem at all.

In his original post, the OP stated that he did indeed show his late wife's death certificate. I don't know if it was in English, though. Now they are asking for her "identification" which I also find weird. I showed my late spouse's death certificate as well (plus our marriage certificate) for the K-1 visa, and that's all that was necessary.

We were not told if the first wife was a USC. I assume she wasn't. Maybe
she was from a country with a national ID card, but I can't see why they
would need that if there is a copy in English of the death certificate.
Maybe you answered the question in your last reply. Maybe they need the
marriage certificate for the first wife PLUS the death certificate with
translations.
Wouldn't the lawyer know all this? (maybe not)
