Going to School on K1: Financial aid and NYS Resident tuition
I'm in US on K-1, just sent out the AOS paperwork. My questions is this: I am
planning on going to School (Cornell) in December. Is there any way I can get access
to reduced tuition for NYS residents? The school at Cornell I'm going to is
state-funded and the tuition is $ 12K if you're a NYS resident, $ 24 K if you're
not. Also at what stage am I eligible for financial aid as a "US permanant
resident"? My wife has been a NYS (NYC) resident or 20 years, and we've both live in
NYC (me since March).
Any advice from someone who experienced similar citcumstances would be greatly
appreciated.

Two common proofs of residency are:
a drivers license with a NY address issued before a certain date (typically a year
before your classes begin, or Jan 1. of that year), or
a state tax return for the previous year.

I doubt it....... and why should you? You are not a resident yet.

The programs have different rules for qualifying as far as income, US residency
etc..... but probably not until you have your AOS interview and are issued a 551
stamp or green card.

You must contact the school and ask them what they require as evidence of residence.
Different schools have different rules. Maybe no-one here knows the current rules for
Cornell but in any event you should contact them for current information.

Again, schemes and rules vary. Your proposed school should be able to tell you where
to look for sources of aid, then contact each provider and investigate.

Talk to your registrar. My husband was allowed to pay in state tuition based on my residency.
