Default Formal notice of marriage meeting

Hi there,

We are getting married in uk in 2012

I am a British citizen (residing in Canada)
My partner is Canadian with UK entry clearance to join partner (entry valid until 2013) (The visa is a unmarried partner, family visa)

Currently we both live in Canada, but not sure in which country we will live in the future (after the wedding)

We have arranged meeting with the registrar (at specific declared office) to give formal notice of marriage.

At this meeting each of us requires proof of UK address;

* utilities bill with your name on it
* bank statement
* council tax demand

My partner does not have this proof as we are not living in UK.

Not sure what to do, any suggestions? Is the request for proof of address with this type of visa correct?

If I've missed anything out, please ask and I'll provide any required info.

Thanks

My suggestion is that you call the registrar and discuss your situation as you have done here.
Sometimes rules are written for 99% of situations but the unusual 1% couldn't be anticipated by the rule writers.

Thanks J.J.

I called them last night and they have confirmed that;

- Providing proof of address is not legally enforceable
- If I write a short letter explaining the situation this is acceptable

Thanks for the response
