Default foreign fiance quitting job??

Hi everyone,
I just chatted with my fiance and he is comtemplating quitting his
job. I have only receive the first NOA and think he is jumping the
gun. I didn't know I needed to fill out the I864 and send in another
large check to have his approval cabled (thanks TSC) so it could be
awhile until he actually gets here. I have tried to convince him not
to quit, but he seems pretty determined. I don't blame him, his
employers treat him awfully. Will this hurt our petition if he's
unemployed when he goes for his interview? Can any help with this
matter? Thanks!

Not an issue for getting the visa.
It is really great you have found someone with enough savings to last
until the visa actually gets granted.

Quitting his job, is strictly up to him. It might be at minimum three months before he has an interview scheduled. The US Consulate doesn't care whether he is employed at present or not. He is the one to decide if he can live without an income and if he has enough money saved to last him for the time he is living in his own country and the time he will be without employment in the US. Wait, perhaps not just his decision, but yours too since it might well affect you when he arrives. Talk it over.

As for the I-864 affidavit of support, you are using the wrong form. For the K-1 it is the I-134. Also sending in the I-824 and the huge fee for cabling would have been a waste of money. Cabling will sometimes delay rather than speed up notification to the Consulate.

Hi Hilary,

I did fairly the same thing, my employer was great but the stress it caused
was to much. I had a pretty stressful job without any vacation for a year. I
decided to spend some time with my parents and friends, actually I only
spend a few bucks more since I quit, but thank god for my saving ahbbit the
last 2 years (the planning lasted that long yes

good luck hope you will be together soon, I'll mail off the forms tomorrow
to the consulate in Amsterdam

Word of advice. Never give anything up until you have that Visa in
hand. Although there is like a 99% chance you will get the visa, I
never take anything for granted. I did not give notice to my place of
employment until that Visa was signed, sealed and delivered. I did
notify my employer of the case scenario beforehand and they were
really good about it. Just my opinion.
