Follow-to-Join question
An I-824 petition for follow-to-join was received at the Vermont
center 28 January 2002.
The original receipt said that it would take from 30 to 90 days
of processing. Checking the Case online it says from 150 to 999 days.
Is it really taking such a long time?
Does the time to process the application include the time until an
immigrant visa has been issued, or does it only include the period of
time necessary to process the petition in the US, and not the US
embassy in homecountry
center 28 January 2002.

Re: Follow-to-Join question
Laila,
I don't understand why you filed an I-824 application for a following-to-join situation...
What is it that you're trying to accomplish?
Regards, JEff

Re: Follow-to-Join question
My husband is a GC holder. We were married before he got his GC.
I am in my home country. Now I am eligible for follow-to-join benefits.
This is the way for me to get a GC and join my husband in the US.

Re: Follow-to-Join question
Laila,
OK, I understand now. So, two comments in response to your original post.
- The times mentioned on the CIS web site address only the processing done in the US at a CIS service center or local office. The CIS has no way of knowing how long anything will take at a consulate.
- Don't pay any attention to the 'time it generally takes to process this type of request' on either your husband's written notice or on the Case Status page of the web site. Instead, look at the particular service center's processing dates reports on the web site.
In this case, the current processing report for Vermont says that they are working in I-824 applications submitted on or before 15 April 2002. This is several months after your husband's date, so he should have heard something by now. He should try to initiate a status inquiry through the CIS National Customer Service Center.
