FIling I-485 for wife using Chicago service center
Hello,
If anyone has filed an I-485 adjustment of status using the Chicago p.o. bo=
x address (USCIS, PO Box 805887, Chicago, IL 60680-4120), how long did it t=
ake to get a receipt notice?=20
We sent our application *registered* mail but INS is not picking it up. We =
called the post office and the clerk said our package has been sitting ther=
e for a week, and it will get sent back to us soon. The clerk said INS send=
s couriers to pick up mail "whenever they feel like it" and "whatever they =
feel like picking up". She said we should contact the recipient (i.e. INS) =
in Chicago but we don't know how. Does anyone have a phone number to contac=
t the INS Chicago processing center, or any suggestions how to file if INS =
is not signing for it?

It's very unfortunate that it happened to you.I mailed my wife's
application on 5/13/2005 via Express Mail and it was received by
INS(Same IL address) on 5/16/2005.(It was signed by an employee).We
received the AON notice on June/11/2005. Don't bother calling them,
wait till you receive your application back and send it again by US
Express Mail. Good Luck !
