Default filing for AOS at a different office

Hi, all.
Just curious, but can you file for AOS at a different location to the one you're nearest to? I'll be living in Fort Lauderdale, but I noticed that Miami has colossal waiting times for the EAD and actual AOS filing. Is it possible to file at a different office? I noticed that some of them take only 1 day to issue EAD. Why is that, when the others take months?
Obviously, I don't want to have to stop working for too long after my temp work permit expires, apart from the money side of it, I'll go crazy sitting around for 3 months, and I hate not working. One option is to get married immediately, but we want to settle for a while. We are sure how we feel about each other, but divorce would be out of the question for both of us, so we want to live together for a bit to be 110% certain. (And they always say that you don't really know what someone's like til you live with them. I speak from personal experience!!!)
Any insights would be appreciated.

Unless you move, no.

You may only file for AOS or EAD at the INS office (or sub-office) that has
jurisdiction over your place of residence. When you call or send for your
forms, you should receive a notice that tells you at which office to file,
as well as whether to file by mail or in person.

Good luck!

It is probably not going to be that bad if it is only for a couple months. That will leave you time to adjust to life in the US, and to look for a job. (Jobsearch can take a long time :-( ... ) And of course plenty of time, to enjoy life being with your fiance/husband!!!
