Anyone had any luck expediting AP? We have filed AOS and EAD at the Arlington office. Any advice and/or experiences would be helpful.
Thanks

We tried at San Francisco for my stepdaughter. They said it takes 2
months to be assigned an A#, and they need an A# in order to issue an
AP, and they will only expedite A# assignment in a life or death
emergency. They said that two months after filing when the A# is
assigned they would issue walk-in APs for non-life-or-death emergencies
to her.
Someone on the About.com immi forum had gotten walking AP only a few
weeks after filing AOS at the same office, but that was perhaps a year
previously. Some procedure must have changed in the interim, I guess.

I needed emergency AP, and filed for AOS & AP in person at the San Bernadino office on 01/30/04. Despite the supervisor of that office accepting my reasons for needing to travel, she said she had to have our original file before she could approve the application. They asked for the transfer of our file to be expedited and AP was approved on 02/13/04.
The supervisor said that if I had been able to file the I-485 earlier then they might have had the original file and been able to issue AP immediately, so you might be more fortunate than I was.

I should mention that I found it difficult to get them to understand that I was filing in person because I needed to travel immediately.
Even after I explained my reasons for filing in person, I was told again and again to mail the application and that I would hear something back in approx 90 days! It got to the point that I thought they might get a security guard to remove me from the building, but instead they summoned the supervisor who eventually understood that needing to travel in an emergency could not wait for approx 90 days!!
