"Joint Sponsor"
May as well start off using the right terms; it will make your research more effective.

I undestand that. By the way, it's not called a dual sponsor. It's called a joint sponsor. You should get used to using the correct immigration terms, it will be most helpful to you as you continue the process.

I answered your concern about a joint sponsor in Post #28.

In a nutshell, the joint sponsor is responsible to the US governement for repayment of expenses *IF* the alien beneficiary receives means-tested benefits from the US government. If the alien beneficiary never receives means-tested benefits (and most don't), then the joint sponsor never has to worry about it. Responsibility ends when the joint sponsor dies, or when the alien beneficiary either becomes a US citizen, earns 40 quarters of eligible social security credits, leaves the US permanently, or dies.

In addition to Ian's excellent explanation, I will add that divorce does not release the joint sponsor's obligation. Only the scenarios Ian posted relieve the joint sponsor's obligation.

There are two kinds of SS disability:

SSDI - not means-tested - you've paid into the program from working
SSI - IS means-tested (for those low-income / disabled from birth)

SSDI can be used as income for sponsorship, SSI cannot I believe.

Thanks for the explanation.

Ian

The PR leaves the US voluntarily and rescinds their greencard or the greencard is rescinded by the USCIS and the PR is deported or if the PR dies and the estate is settled.

The OP wanted the "easiest, most inexpensive way"...but really what she should be looking for is the "smartest, most ensured successful way".

Indeed!!

Also if finances are an issue and he needs to be working, then he needs to come here the way that will take the least amount of time to have an EAD.
