EAD appointment-time to show up?
Hello.
My husband just got his letter saying his EAD appl. was approved and
we should come to pick up his card Wed. April 9 at 12 noon. When we
dropped off the appl and our AOS papers, we showed up about 5:30 am on
the advice of people on this list. We were near the front of the line
and got in and out by 8:30. It went smoothly if you ignore the fact
that it was a gusty 5 degrees out. Now I am wondering...if we have an
appointment, do we still need to show up way early and get a number,
or can we just come at noon? The INS...ooops I mean the BIS or
whatever it's called now...helpline didn't know the answer. Anyone
know from experience?

Hi Keri,
I was told by my laywer that if you have an appointment letter, there's no
need to stand in line.
Just show the letter to the security guard and you will be let in.
So that's exactly what I did.
My appointment for EAD processing was at 10.00am (Santa Ana sub-office).
Approached the building at 9.40am (had to walk all around the block after
parking, entrance was actually at another street), showed my letter to the
security guard and was waived through.
Had to wait outside the room until approximately 10.00am.
Left the building with EAD and AP (no appointment, just a notice to pick it
up anytime) at 10.30am.
Good luck,
Etienne

Which BCIS office are you going to? Which room is the appointment for?

Sure, here you go (copied from earlier post):
Appointment was scheduled for 10am.
Entered the building at 9.45, skipping the long line outside, because I had
an appointment notice. Just showed it to the guard outside and was waived
through.
I just went by myself, and brought the appointment letter, my CA drivers
licence, and my passport (just in case, but I didn't need it).
Security check, remove belt and be scanned. Went up in elevator to the room
number stated on the letter.
Had to wait in line outside the room for 10 min. to have ID and
appointment letter checked, military style, by a HUGE security guard.
Also had a letter to pick up my AP, without appointment (I was the only one
that had a non-appointment letter as well). Letters were taken by the
security guard.
Was let in the room with a group of 20 people (about a hundred were waiting
there already). After 30 minutes waiting my name was called (didn't get a
ticket/number. Concerned me a bit at first, because it was announced that
there were no tickets left for the day for EAD and AP. But I just waited).
First thing I got was my AP document (got it from the EAD-processing lady).
Apparently the security guard had taken care of that one, I had seen him
walking around with my letter (easy to notice because it was printed on red
paper, all others were white).
I checked my address on my EAD, signed a card and gave a fingerprint. Sat
down again.
After 5 minutes my picture was taken. Waited 5 minutes for it to dry.
I looked too funny on the picture, so they decided to take another one...
)
Waited for the picture to dry, and walked out of the building with my EAD
card and AP document at 11am.
Security guard was a bully but helpful and effective, the EAD processing
staff was very nice, efficient, friendly and helpful, and the lady was
actually very cute too!
See, there not just horror stories about INS/BCIS!

Mine is valid for 1 year.
You need to get a renewal when it expires (better to file about 90 days
before expiration date, I heard).
I guess it is exactly the same procedure.

How long after the fingerprinting did it take for you to get the letter
that your card was ready
so you had to go back to the INS office where you had your
fingerprinting done to get the card
I am new at this ......my husband went to Nashville last Wednesday and
got his fingerprinting done........he is bored todeath
not being able to work

Hi Brenda,
Not sure if I understand correctly. The AOS fingerprinting has nothing to do
with your EAD.
I went in for my EAD, after getting my EAD notice letter.
This letter was the very first correspondence that I got from INS after
filing.
It also stated the apporximate total processing time for my AOS.
So when I go the letter, I didn't get AOS fingerprinting yet.
Fingerprints (for EAD) and pictures for EAD were taken at the spot when I
went in for EAD-processing, and I walked out carrying my EAD card. So you
get it right away, no need to pick it up later or wait for it to come in the
mail.
Here's my timeline:
I-130/I-485:
01/23/03 filed at office Santa Ana
02/21/03 receipt notice, EAD scheduled for 3/7/03
02/24/03 AP notice, to pick up anytime
03/07/03 EAD processing, get AP and EAD
03/13/03 AOS fingerprinting notice for 3/25/03
03/25/03 fingerprinted for AOS
Good luck,
Etienne
