Default DS-230 Part 1

I just got my packet from the consulate yesterday and I had a few questions
before I send back the DS-230.

Question 14 - Name of Spouse - Would I record NONE? This is a fiance visa so
I'm definitely not married.

Question 19 - List names, dates and places of birth and addresses of all
children. I have none, so should I record None? It says on the top of the
form to use N/A for questions that are not applicable, but it's not so much
that it's not applicable. I could have children, I just don't, so is none
the more appropriate response?

Question 22 - List below all employment for the last ten years. I worked for
a day at the Humane Society and then I quit. Do I need to list that? I also
worked for I think 4 days at another job that I quit, do I need to list
that? I don't even put them on my resume so I never really thought about
them.

Question 23 - List below all educational institutions attended - does that
include elementary school?

Questions 25 - List dates of all previous visits to or residence in the US.
I can think of 4 significant times I went (twice to visit my fiance, twice
to go to Florida with my family) but we live near to North Dakota and when
the dollar was better, we used to go down there for shopping. I have NO IDEA
when those happened. As well, my grandparents live on a border town in
Ontario. Whenever we've visited, we've driven through the US and then back
into Canada. Again, no idea when that was. So how would I record all this?

Thanks for the help!

Leanne

I put none

Again I put none

I wouldn't - I left out a couple of jobs I either did for cash or didn't
spend long at. I just put my primary employment down

    > Question 23 - List below all educational institutions attended - does that
    > include elementary school?

I just put down my main senior school, college and uni

    > Questions 25 - List dates of all previous visits to or residence in the
US.

I do remember this coming up but I can't remember the answer, I suggest a
google on DS-230 - that will give you the answer

Good luck

why are you filling out DS 230 Part I for K1 fiance visa?

Because it clearly stated on the IV-15 that use to be on the London embassy website, that you needed to I would guess.

I put N/A

I put N/A again.

Question 22 - List below all employment for the last ten years. I worked for

I personally wouldnt put those two down.

Question 23 - List below all educational institutions attended - does that

I wrote down every place of education that I had attended.

Questions 25 - List dates of all previous visits to or residence in the US.

I would list all entries that you had your passport stamped.

Because DS 230 Part I is the required biographic data sheet to send back to
the consulate when you receive your pkg.

Why not? The correct information is required. You don't get to pick
which jobs to put down.

I guess I dont consider 1 day of "work" to be all that relevant. I was in the fortunate position of having been at the same company for the last 12 years when I filled in my forms.

if the question don t concern you or if you cannot answer to the questions
write none
for the school only write the ones were you got diplomas and for the visits in
america write the ones that you can remember like the four times you went for
holidays. That it they don t care about the details.

I don't know - I only put the three jobs that I had that were relevant to my career, because I hadn't spent any significant periods or gained anything particularly financially or professionally from my part time jobs that I did while I was at school and at university. I often had more than one job at a time while I was a student because of the nature of part-time work.

I think you probably have to be pragmatic about it - put down the most important information that you can in the space available. In any case, it was never a problem with either the INS or the State Dept. They just asked if I was a civil engineer just to confirm I was who I said I was in the forms - they didn't care who I worked for or for how long.

I put "None", for the first instance in the question, then for completeness all other sub-parts to the question I put "N/A"

Question 23 - List below all educational institutions attended - does that

I didn't bother - I just put Secondary School and University

Questions 25 - List dates of all previous visits to or residence in the US.

I panicked a bit at this question, because I had put the three most recent visits, and my fiancée picked up after I'd sent the form in that it had asked for all visits. c.f. DS-156 Q27 asks "Have you ever been in the U.S." and I put "Most recently..." I e-mailled the London Embassy to ask them if it was okay, but that day when I got home, I found Packet 4 had arrived on my doorstep. So, they never replied definitively, but obviously it wasn't a big deal for them since they'd already given me an interview date.

BTW, my parents kept all my old passports, including a time when there was no visa waiver agreement between the U.S. and the U.K., so I had all my previous stamps to take with me to the interview - they asked for nothing in addition to the stamps I'd already had in my current passport. I'm lucky in that at least I have that evidence.

Since the DS-230 said specifically to put N/A, I told Marc to put N/A in the questions about children and spouse. While it may be applicable to some people it was not applicable to us.

For the schools, we put college, university, and high school. We didn't worry with grade school for two reasons 1) we didn't think it was necessary and 2) we didn't have anymore lines and didn't want to do an attachment for grade school (laziness)

The visits to the United States...we put all of his adult visits to the United States. Marc said he recalled going to the states once as a child but couldn't remember when exactly. So I told him it was probably ok to leave that out being he couldn't completely remember. I mean, what if you went to the US as an infant? They don't expect you to remember that.

We haven't got packet 4 yet, but I think everything will be fine.
