Default dates of marrages

on the I-129F line 11 ask for "date(s) marrigges(s)"

can anyone tell me how accurate this needs to be? is the year good enough or
does it need to be month and year or even the exact day?

Hi Alan
I would say be as completely accurate as possible. Don't you need to provide backup anyway? i.e., copies of previous marriage certificates? I did, when I did mine.

The I-129F only ask for "copies of documents showing that each prior
marriage was legally terminated". Not for proof of the the marrage itself.

And I don't know the dates of those marrages. Thank's for responding.

Alan

The I-129F might not require the marriage certificates but some US Consulates do at the time of the K-1 interview. One such US Consulate is the one in Montreal.

For the OP, the dates must be accurate to the day. The divorce decrees will have that information and those must be provided. Granted in case of death of a former spouse the marriage date might not appear, however, the date of marriage must be entered accurately.

The bigger question here is; what kind of a guy doesn't even remember the anniversary date(s) of his own marriage(s)?? It's a good question -

Actually I'm one of them. I don't recall the exact date of my first marriage. It was either the 5th or 6th of January. Hell is was 35 years ago and I was only married to him for six anniversaries.

Well being able to hit it within a day is a little different. Alan seems to indicate that he may only be able to hit the YEAR!!?? My first marriage only lasted 34 years but, thank goodness, I can never be accused of forgetting our anniversary even once, and believe me, my wife never forgot it. We even celebrated the anniversary of our first date every year. I may have to resort to drugs to continue this record, at some point ;^). I am aware that most of the women I am acquainted with would be insulted if their spouse wasn't able to remember their anniversary. Obviously, not remembering details from the distant past, particularly with other relationships in the intervening years is quite different. I hope you know that my earlier posting was intended to be taken lightly. I know that this is deadly serious business, but that makes it all the more important that a tiny bit of humo(u)r be injected into it from time to time. Wishing you all, who have been so helpful (and, at times, entertaining) to me, a very pleasant day.

Please don't laugh to hard at me, but I once had to look inside my wedding ring to remember the actual date. Couldn't remember if it was the 26th or 29th. And we're just going to celebrate our 5th anniversary this month.

I'm one of the rare ones. I don't celebrate anniversaries for wedding, first date (8/23), etc. I'm far from the sentimental type apparently. But I do remember birthdays and always send cards.

So good to know that you have SOME redeeming qualities. It is entirely possible that I am OVERLY romantic. It could happen, yeah, it could.
