Rule 1 -- tell the truth, it is easier to remember. Corollary: don't guess. It is OK to say "I do not know," "I do not remember" -- if it is the truth.
Rule 2 -- understand the question being asked. If you answer without understanding the question, you may very well violate rule #1. It is OK to say "I don't understand the question," "what?" etc.
Rule 3 -- and this is the hardest -- Answer only the question asked, nothing more. Period. "Do you know what time it is?" "Yes, I do" is an example of a correct answer. "10:44 am" is not.
Just remember these three rules. Do not try to get into the consular officer's head.
These rules have stood the test of time and are designed to keep you out of trouble.
Good luck.
BTW, you will be a nervous wreck. However, the ConOff's see many nervous people every day.
