Default Clearance from Washington DC

Does anyone have any idea how long it takes to get a clearance from D.C. I believe a request was made on my husband's behalf near or on January 6th. The embassy has not received anything yet. Has anyone experienced this?

Also, I have a question about AOS. I know that on a K1 you must file for AOS ASAP. Is this also true for K3 visa holders?

Thanks to all that respond.

Certainly everyone going through Russia and China are experiencing this. They both have clearances pending after successful interviews in July and August. In China, they even submit the same security clearances on adopted infants???? The good news is, current submissions are clearing in 2 ~ 3 weeks or so.

K-3 needs to submit AOS after they arrive.

Security clearance on infants? Yes, Lord knows how many homicidal maniac infants have terrorized this country. Lovely how they use our tax dollars....

One of the guys on candleforlove.com group was waiting outside while his lady was being interviewed (citizens are not allowed). He struck up a conversations with some Americans who were there waiting to get documents for their adopted children and all reported the same thing; they were adopting infants to about 3 year olds and were put on hold for the SAO.

It certainly makes one wonder why when FAM (and anything I have found) says SAO's are not required under age 16 or so. Does DOS really think they will get a 'hit' on the FBI, CIA and other systems identifying them as terrorists or smugglers?

A couple of the guys in the group (one is in China now - going on 3 years trying to get his then-fiancee, now wife a visa) are trying to get something 'official' on this issue like correspondence or notices. With documentary proof of this nonsense, it will be loudly protested to DOS, INS and number of legislators. I may, in fact, start a thread here to garner some extra support.

I have a personal interest in this because someone who works for me has a sister who is in the adoption process for a Chinese infant. Anyone in the 30 or so countries that require an SAO should be concerned, too. After all, it takes just as long to run a name on a baby as it does an adult - hence, backlogs for everyone.

Please don't forget that Bin Laden was once an infant and no-one bothered to
do a security check on him
at that time and look what he grew up to be, and the rest is history.

My husband is from Lebanon. Where did you get this information about the wait time? Was it from the embassy?

Yes, I am still waiting for the clearance. The embassy contact informed me that there is no contact information to check the status on the clearance, I will just have to wait. I have since written to my senator(Missouri - Kit Bond), to see if his office can inquire on my behalf. I think this is so ridiculous. I am so fed up right now, I can't see straight. I think that the INS should not approve a petition until all of this crap is complete. At least, it would not have a person getting excited for nothing. I am happy to hear the people on this board, getting their K-3 interviews, but must admit, I am a little envious. I wonder why we have to go through extra steps just to be together. This is so depressing. I often wonder if it would be any easier, just to move there.

You have obviously never babysat, bin laden has nothing on toddlers. Turn your back on them at your peril.
