Change the VISA status
My wife entered the USA with J-1 visa ( 3 months visa). After that we found a sponsor and my wife went to school. We sent an application for F-1 visa.....F-1 visa is still in process and immigration needs some additional papers from her. The sponsor who said will pay for my wife's education doesn't want to pay anymore... Immigration said that my wife has 60 days to mail the papers to Immigration (bank statements, paid college bill)......College bill will not be paid in 60 days because ( I repeat) sponsor doesn't want to pay anymore...We still have time until MARCH 25, 2003 ...
As a husband, I came to USA in 1998 and I have F-1 visa......and I go to college for the 2nd year......
CAN MY WIFE apply for a different visa ? Can she stay here in America with me and receive a VISA as my spouse until I finish my education? I still have 2-3 more years...

Re: Change the VISA status
I think F2 would be the answer. Cross check this though.

If your wife is in the U.S. in valid temporary status, then she is eligible
to have INS change her status from whatever it is to F-2. To do this, she
will submit Form I-539 with appropriate documentation to the appropriate INS
Service Center.
You or your wife should sit down with an international student adviser from
the international office of your school, and review the package very
carefully to ensure that all required and suggested documentation is
included. She should submit some documentation of temporary intent.
