Re: Change our lives!
Are you totally sure you cannot apply through your Irish
connections...if you are not Irish in any way, why do you have an
Irish passport.
Just so you know, the DV lottery actually takes an un-proportoinal
amount of Irish citizens to the US as opposed to any other country.
This must be extremely frustrating for you, and I really sympathise
for you. I think another option you could try is speaking with an
immigration lawyer to discuss in detail the possibilties.
Do you have a degree?
I know of someone (before spet 11 I must admit) who had a marketing
degree. They lived in Uzbekistan. He came to the US on a B2 visa and
started applying for jobs in a crappy school district that was in
desperate need for teachers. they hired him on an H-1 visa and he is
living here pretty much perminantly now teaching math, but ironically
just got transfered to the PE department.
You CAN apply as a teacher in the US as long as you have a degree,
there will be countless forms to fill out and many tests to take to
get you up to their standards. You will probably also be required to
take night school alongside the teaching, especially if you teach an
area your not essentially familiar with.
If your PE teacher, what does your husband do - can he look for
transferes in his job?
If you have been on a ski resort for 5 years, do you ahve enough
experience to set up your own busiess in the US?
Don't rule living in the US out completely. I like to look at things
positiviely, and if your willing to persivere for several years you
will get there.
See a lawyer who you can discuss matters with. If he's no help, try
another.

Many thanks for your seriously positive reply. I am actually Irish as both my parents are Irish. As I was born in England I am entitled to an Irish passport but I have read the details of the DV lottery and one of your parents must be living in Ireland at the time of your birth in order to qualify. I must admit I will probably have a go anyway, after all its free!!
Next answer, Yes I do have a degree and a post grad and 10 years teaching experience in PE etc. I have also been doing supply teaching so when I am next in the USA I will see an immigration lawyer.
Great advice and believe me I will not give up!! I may even buy a lottery ticket on saturday night. Lets see them refuse me with £15 million in my pocket!!

Skiman, LOL yeh...now your talking. If you can raise $100,000 dollars
to give to the US you are elidgeible (sp?) for a yearly-renewable
visa. So buying your way in is always another option!! =)

But I wouldn't count on the green card lottery, even if you qualify... I've been applying for 10 years under an Irish passport (born in Dublin). No luck!

But if you have enough money there are ways nonetheless.

Re: Change our lives!
I have good news for you! I've graduated from Physical Edu and Sport Academy with Masters Degree. I thought like you there's no chance for any kind of visa for me. I was wrong. Just get a lawyer and what is more important find a job and file a petition for H1B. My was approved so why not yours? Good luck!
