Can I get a temporary work authorization while waiting for EAD?
Can I just go to the INS in Charlotte and ask them for a temporary EAD while waiting for real EAD? (I-94 only valid until dec. 3rd).
For example could I go get a temporary EAD for 3 months at the end of November, even if my I-94 expires on Dec. 3rd. Or is a temporary work authorization only good until the I-94 expires?

Nope. If you filed 90 days ahead of expiry, you could. I-94 has nothing to do
with employment. You need an EAD for work. Don't work without one or you could
be in hot water and your employer could be fined. Dec 3 is still a way off, why
don't you check the status online at the INS website. Might give you an idea...

What is the "real EAD" based on? If it is based on an I-485, then that
means you have already filed Form I-485, and the expiration date on your
I-94 is irrelevant. A person who is an I-485 applicant is authorized to
stay in the U.S., as soon as the I-485 has been filed, and the I-94
expiration date no longer indicates anything about the person's authorized
stay.
If the I-94 indicates a status authorizing work in itself, like H-1B, then
it can be relevant to work authorization.
When your "real EAD" has been pending for 90 days, then you can go to INS
and get an "interim EAD." The interim EAD has an expiration date; I think
it is something like 8 months after the date of issuance. The "read EAD"
will be valid for one year.
