Default biometrics + broken wrist = trouble??

hi all, my biometrics appointmentr just came up for may 18th. i
already had one for i765 ead.
but i'm left handed and broke my wrist. i can sign with my right hand
- but it is nothing like my regular signature. maybe by then i can
write with a pen (i feel signs even now it may be possible, i can
loosely hold a pen now). should i just go ahead with it and do the
best i can? or should i not worry - is the signature not part of the
real biometrics - just me legally "signing off" on the process?

thanks!

I think you should just do your best. That's all you CAN do. It's not your fault if you are physically unable to sign your name the way you normally would.

Whether they will accept this is another matter, of course; I'm not sure if anyone here can tell you what will happen. But I hope they're flexible enough to allow it.

Good luck, and let us know what happens.

I would schedule an appointment with USCIS and explain the situation.
The USCIS phone line hardly ever gives you a 'best' answer. Explain the
situation, and they can tell you what best to do. Your biometrics for
your EAD are done. I guess the only other issue would be the AP.

To be honest, I don't recall the signature part of it, but I think it's
part of the real biometrics (the full prints one, not the EAD one
finger one).

Anyway, call the USCIS and if need be make that appointment. You most
likely need to reschedule.

Unlike the previous poster, I would NOT schedule an appt to explain the "situation". I don't think the situation is that deep.

Just go to the appointment and sign as best as you can.

Is there any alternative that's easier or less complicated?

I've got to agree with this. My god... have people become so paranoid that even the obvious (in this case a broken wrist) paralyzes their course of action?

You need the signature for the EAD, believe it is on your card. Also need the signature for the green card which is derived from the EAD databank. The full fingered bio is for the security clearance. Signature not required for that one I believe.

Some of you may remember that we had a similar situation........

Mr. Pink had had a significant hand injury and is still unable to lay his right palm flat with fingers splayed and flat. Because of the pins and screws in his hand it simply won't bend. This is not going to change. He also had difficulty rotating his right ring finger to get the print.

The reason it was important was for the fingerprinting---part of the process was to take entire hand prints. I don't know if they still do that or not, but in March of 2002 they did. We explained the situation to the person taking the prints and since this is a permanent condition, they took them, adding that these were certainly unique to him.

While we were at our appt. there was a woman who was turned away because she had badly cut one of her fingers and she was told to reschedule when she had healed.

So, to the OP, I'd go ahead and go, but don't be surprised if they tell you to reschedule when you are fully healed---that is, if you are unable to position your hand the way they want you to.

Good luck!

PS at the time he also wasn't able to write well with his right hand, but his signature looks like scribbles anyway, so it didn't make much difference!

I didn't mean it as paranoid, more as convenience. :)

If they take his biometrics and later declare them insufficient, the
USCIS could stall un such. Not that there is much relevance, but in my
case there was 'something wrong' with my biometrics for my EAD. From
what I understand part of it (or the whole) was missing. Only when I
got an infopass appointment, someone checked it out, made the
aformentioned statement, and gave me an instant biometrics appointment
for the same day for the EAD.

Point I was trying to make is: they could do their best to make proper
prints and get a signature, but just the same it might end up somewhere
being labeled as 'insufficient' or such. I was not trying to be
paranoid, rather pro-active. :)

i'm not paranoid yet - but i'd prefer not to take half dayt off work,
drive total of 4 hours if i know from other people's experience that
its waste of time.

but i'm not hearing that - i'm just going to go and give it a go. like
a previous poster - my signature was so bad before, it might help!
