One's apostrophe is not to be confused with ones hyphen. That can lead to all sorts of accidents.

Just thought Id do an update...I have finally been verified! For anyone else in this situation ask to speak with a supervisor and keep chasing and generally being a pain in the ass until they listen! :)

I had a similar issue. I applied for my SSN in Texas then flew to Chicago for my wedding. When I got back there was no number waiting for me after over a month. I went back to the office and they said it wasn't in the system.

Turned out the guy that imputed me originally normally works in the back and doesn't input into the computers! So he messed it up. They re-applied (they told me it takes a month because it has to be verified by the San Fransisco office) and after another month I finally got it.

So for me, it was more a case of retracing steps and dealing with someone competent.
