Default Applying for a job...

I'm here on K1... had my biometrics appointment today and, from what I have gathered from the forums it will likely be around a month before I receive my permit to work...

So my question is, do I need to wait until I have the piece of paper in hand before I apply for a job or is it safe to start looking/applying now?

I know I can't actually be employed until I have it but I was wondering about how long it can take from applying to actually getting/starting a job...

By all means, pound the pavement ahead of time so you can have leads in the works when your EAD appears!

Are you married yet? If so, you might want to know that unauthorized employment by spouses of USCs who are pending AOS is generally forgiven:

As he points out, it's not without risk, but in today's job climate some people might consider it worth it if they can get away with it.

I was prepared to start work without by EAD back in 2004, since I had a good job offer and had been out of work for a couple of months, and I was 86 days from filing for the EAD, but as it turned out I got my EAD the day before I started.

You can look for a job, interview, and even accept employment. The only thing you can't do, is sign any employment-related papers.
