AOS and Vaccination requirement
 

Does anyone know what kind of vaccination requirement for filing AOS? Can I just go to any place and have it done or do I need to go to any specific place designated by INS?

You will have to go to a designated doctor by INS. You can find the doctors on their website. When you call the doctor to make an appointment, they can let you know what shots you will need. My advice is, I had 3 to choose from, I called all 3 and everyone gave me a different price ranging from $230.00 to $345.00. If you have a choice, call and check all of them.

Did you come here on K1 or K3? I noticed on your timeline that you have "same day EAD". How do you get it? From what I know it takes awhile for INS to issue EAD. Thanks...

How does the doctor determine which shots are needed?
The doctor that examined me at the medical for my K-1 didn't point out that I needed any further vaccinations based on my old vaccination records at home. I don't have any medical records now apart from what the INS has in their files (including the K-1 files).

Does the INS let you know whether you have to see an INS assigned physician before the AOS interview?

On the 485 application it said that I have to submit vaccination record along with the application. I guess there are certain shots that you have to have in order to file AOS.

All I know is they ask for a Varicella vaccination (chicken
pox). The (INS appointed) doctor who I called said: Bullshit
just tell them you had the disease already, which I actually
had like most kids. I did that and the interviewer did not
make a problem.

By the way: I had a K-1 medical and just got my original
vaccinations papers back, they did not go in the brown envelope.

I still have my original vaccination card, but it's not in english. It was checked by the embassy assigned doctor at my K-1 medical back home. I had all the 'important' shots like MMR and tetanus... I had varicella when I was a kid - don't have a record of that though.

I know the I-485 says you need a "vaccination supplement" but I didn't think this applies to K-1 holders. I applied for AOS in January - and didn't submit a vaccination supplement (?).

I can't find my vacination records. I'm from Canada. And I can list all my shots and most of them the years. What specific shots do they require?

I do think though you will need to have the supplement signed off by a civil surgeon when you actually go for the AOS interview.

We also did not submit the supplement when filing AOS, but it does state to bring it to the interview, then it states if you don't have it or haven't completed the supplement to come to the interview anyway. So I am not sure what they would do if you haven't completed the supplement.

The thing that bothers me is the lack of information they give about how and when to obtain this supplement and if it is indeed necessary for everyone. Or even how to contact the assigned doctors...
A lot of people from this group adjusting from K-1 have adjusted status successfully with out further medical examinations.
It is not even clear to me what this vaccination supplement is... How does an INS physician determine your vaccination history?Based on a card from a random country in the world or based on your word?

I called an INS # to find out more but all they said was 'follow your office's instructions'. No instructions so far.

Sorry I'm annoying but the requirements are still not clear to me. If anybody can enlighten me...

I'm a US citizen. My husband is British and he applied for AOS.

When we received the letter from INS in Indianapolis, Indiana saying they got his application, we went down there with the letter and they issued his EAD the same day.
After he received his social security number, he is now allowed to work.

Go to the top of this website, and type "gardener, I-693" in the
search box and make sure to check the button for "Search only in

I too called the INS # yesterday. I also called one of the "approved"
doctors in our area. The doctor said that you only need an approved doc if
you need a full medical. If you just need vaccinations, any doc can do it
and provide a record to supplement the "Vaccination Documentation Worksheet"
that was received at the K-1 interview.

The INS woman said, don't worry about it until closer to interview time and
that, at that time, Alan would only need his missing shots, not a full
medical... even if it was more than a year from now. But she couldn't
confirm whether we need an approved doc for vaccinations or not.

She also said something else... She told me that inland offices don't ask
for medical records until the AOS interview. But that offices in port areas
(Miami, San Diego, New York, etc) often ask for medical records immediately.
She said that people coming "on boats" (her language, not mine) often have
more communicable diseases and this encourages them to be diagnosed and
begin treatment sooner. She mentioned TB and even leprosy!

Not sure if that's true... and she really didn't give me the info I
needed... but it is interesting.

Meanwhile, if anyone has the definitive word on this, I'd sure like to know
before we spend hundreds of dollars on medical exams we don't need.

This is just our experience. My husband had a K-1 medical, but was given his vaccination card back. The medical was in the brown envelope, which hadn't made it to the district office from POE by the time of our AOS interview. (Imagine) What the interviewing officer in Philadelphia had us do was run to an INS sanctioned physician at (I think) 9th and Samson. He drew up a form letter for us to take with. The dr's office charged $25 to certify that the card was suffiicient documentation of vaccination. They completed the form and sealed it in an envelope. We trotted back to 16th & Callowhill, were allowed to go straight back to the third floor instead of waiting in line and presented the envelope to the officer. He broke the seal and broke out the stamps. I am not sure what all vaccines are required now, but he had neither the chicken pox shot nor documentation of having had the disease. He arrived in 2001 and I know things have changed since then.
