Hello Folks: Our AOS interview has been scheduled for the beginning of next month, in
San Jose, CA, and I have a few questions.

(i) Do the spouses get interviewed together, or, separately
(ii) I have made copies of all required docs and am taking the originals, too. I
am also taking our wedding and engagement albums. Is it usual procedure for
the INS officer to ask to keep a copy of one our wedding pics?
(iii) What questions are typically asked at this interview? Being married for over
2 yrs, my wife and I are aware of each other's characteristics, etc. But do
the INS officers ask any personal questions that we should be prepared for?
(iv) Should my wife expect to get her passport stamped with the I-551 the day of
the interview?

Any other tips/info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch, Nitin

Sorry, did not apply in our case. We needed some additional info. It would be great
if that were true so you don't have to come at 2 AM to wait in line.

Good Luck

We had the AOS interview about three months after doing the paperwork, whereas I was
thinking a year or two. We went with copies of everything but didn't have any
pictures that I can remember. We went and waited over two hours, when I finally went
up and asked what was happening. Later, a nice lady came out and said the ball was
dropped somehow and that she would do the interview in her office. It took about
twenty minutes. The biggest proof we offered, I think, was credit cards we both had
in our names, believe it or not. I also had my original W2s. The interview was not
taped and it was together. They did ask how we met and other general questions but
nothing too personal. And she didn't get her passport stamped with anything. Anyway,
about three weeks later, we got the letter stating her conditional green card was
approved and on the way, though it has still to make it to our home.

Good luck.

Depends on the Office and on the Officer's reading of the couple. Alvena and her
husband were interviewed separately, as were another couple using that INS office. My
husband and I were interviewed together. At one point, the examiner said "Now, I know
you two are married."

Not necessary to bring both albums. Bring a few select photos and either photcopy one
in color or scan and print it out in color. INS did ask to keep one of ours (and
others have reported this as well) and we then showed her the index number of our
binder that contained a scanned and printed out copy of the photo she was holding in
her hands.

They do not ask characteristics but if they ask anything, they were ask questions
like date of birth, names of parents, where parents were born, when did you meet, how
did you meet, who was at your wedding, etc. I was asked how many times my husband had
been previously married and the names of his wives and how many children he had and
what he did in the service.

Only if your file is physically present, your wife's fingerprints have cleared, you
have all your paperwork in order and your I-864 up-to-date with the most current IRS
income tax returns/W-2's or tax transcripts.

Well, we had the AOS interview and things went pretty smoothly. Firstly, thanks to
all those who responded to my original posting. We arrived an hour before the
scheduled time and decided to loaf around outside the INS office until about 15mins
prior to the interview. We were called in about half an hour after the scheduled
time. INS officer was polite and apologized for keeping us waiting. He escorted us to
his office and had us sworn in.

Firstly, he asked to see my wife's passport, and kept her I-94. Then he asked to see
the marriage certificate and my citizenship cert. Asked for copies of most recent tax
return, original employment verification letter and copies of joint finances (bank
stmts, car/life/health ins, etc). Verified information from the I-485. Took my wife's
right index fingerprint, and, had her sign a box in some form (presumably the I-551).
Confirmed our change of address. Didn't ask to see any wedding pics.

He then asked about how we met, how long we knew each other before getting married,
where we got married, etc. This was all in a conversational manner, rather than an
inquisition. After about 15mins, he said everything was fine and we would receive the
approval letter in the mail within 1~3 months, after which we would have to return to
the INS office for a stamp in her passport.

He said he had her T-file, but, her A-file hadn't arrived in spite of their
having already requested it. So, he said he couldn't stamp the passport at the
time of the interview. He showed us the approval letter which was already typed
up and was sitting in her file. He took back her EAD and took back her AP. Since,
she's not working presently and we have no plans to travel outside the country,
it didn't matter.

So, now we are waiting for the letter. Regards, Nitin

Hi, Will you get conditional card or the final Green Card. If conditional how long
does it for that to arrive in the mail.
