Hi everyone,
I had my Adjustment of Status interview this morning and here is the write-up for those interested or people nearing this stage in their visa journey.
My interview was scheduled for 7.40am, I arrived about twenty minutes early and a guard who was arriving told me the office would be opening in a few minutes. My husband and I walked in, gave an officer our appointment letter and photo identification and put our car keys and wallets through the scanner.
Our attorney joined us in the waiting room and after about ten minutes a very pleasant lady led us into a back office. She informed us that she would be conducting our interview and proceeded to swear us in.
She asked for my EAD and AP, passport with I-94 inside (which she removed) and our marriage certificate.
My husband and I then both provided our driver's licenses, original birth certificates and social security cards as requested. I had copies of our documents, as did our lawyer, but they were not asked for or kept by the immigration officer.
We were then asked about our wedding, just a very general question "what sort of wedding did you have and where did it take place?"
The officer continued to flip through my file and made sure everything had been processed correctly after the denial of my I-485 last summer. (Read previous post). She asked us to confirm why our application was denied and when we filed our original I-485 packet, which was March 09.
The atmosphere was very relaxed and calm. The immigration officer was extremely friendly and polite. I answered the questions regarding previous arrests, terrorism, pervious marriages, do we any have children together or seperately? All the answers being 'no' in our case.
I was not asked to show any photographs, joint documents or proof of having a joint life together. However, I had all these documents and copies had they have been requested. Always be prepared, even if you think you have a relatively simple case/background.
She said my green card will be on its way in 2-3 weeks and I am now a Permanent Resident!
She asked what my immediate plans were and I said that my sister is actually marrying in England on 5th June but I had not booked any flights etc. She said that if I made an Infopass appointment they would give me a stamp in my passport which will show my PR status and allow me to travel if my green card has not arrived by the time I wish to fly.
This was very useful information to have and I am so excited at the prospect of going to visit England for the first time since I moved here 17 months ago, and see my family of course!
Thank you to all the BE members who have given me advice during this process and also to people who posted their previous experiences which were very valuable and reassuring to read.
