Default AOS Experience

San Bernadino Office

Our appointment was for 8.30am and we were called by an interviewing officer on time, so no waiting!

The officer was somewhat unfriendly and I was resigned to the fact that we would probably encounter difficulty, especially due to the fact that since our marriage I have spent more time in the UK than in the US!

The officer asked for proof of a shared life and all we could provide was a life insurance policy! He asked whether Kem had put my name on his house and whether we had a joint bank account; my answer was no!

He asked me what our address and telephone number was; I knew the address but could not remember the telephone number as it had recently been changed. He asked me if I had a state ID, drivers licence or EAD; my answer to each question was no!

He asked for Kem's divorce papers from his first marriage, however, this was one item we were unable to locate for the interview. Fortunately, the officer checked the papers we had previously submitted for this document.

The officer asked for my original AP papers and then commented on the fact that I had only recently arrived back in the US, I confirmed this fact but was not asked for and did not offer any explanation.

The officer then asked for my medical results, but realised his error in that I was a K1 applicant. When applying for AOS I had attached a letter from my GP confirming that I had received the MMR and TD vaccinations, this is all that was required! I did not need the varicella vaccination, nor the vaccination supplement!

At this point the officer confirmed that my fingerprints were okay, but that my name check had not come back. He said that he was approving our case and that as soon as the name check was complete I would receive a notice to attend the office to have my passport stamped.

As he had retained my original AP papers I asked if I could have them back; he agreed but stated that as my application was in progress I should not travel. However, he then changed his mind and stated that as my initial entry was legal I should not have any difficulty should I need to travel prior to my passport being stamped.

For reasons that are best left unexplained, I think we were probably the most unprepared couple of this newsgroup at our AOS interview and yet we were still approved!
