AOS - do I ask or ignore?
I'm going to Arlington to get my new EAD on Wednesday. I have my AOS
pending there as well. Should I ask them about it and see what the status
is? My concern is that part of me wants them to take their time in getting
it to me. Our 2nd wedding anniversary is in June and if they wait until
after that, then I get the 5 year permanent card rather than the 2 year
conditional one. But another part of me wants to make sure they didn't lose
it or misfile it or something. Do I ask about it or ignore them until after
our anniversary?

I believe you'll get a 10 yr card if you have been married for more than 2 years. Have you tried looking at the 'average' processing times for your field office to get some idea of what the norm may be ?
Hey if I was worried - I'd ask, but then I'm not renowned for my patience

Re: AOS - do I ask or ignore?
The EAD appointments are separate from the information point so it will be
difficult to do both. I would suggest waiting until you have passed the time
they stated on the initial form to enquire about your status. BTW, the
unconditional GC has a ten year expiry, not five.

Like Andy stated the EAD all takes place downstairs while you would need to go upstairs and get a number and wait to be called. Now if you get you EAD card early enough, since you've waited in line for a while and already passed through security you might as well go up stairs room 201 (I think) and see what the wait looks like. It doesn't hurt to ask. You could be there all day.

If you hear anything about the progress of the background checks,
please post. We've been waiting for the Arlington post-interview
letter since late January.
Thanks,
Mike
