Hello,

I just wanted to report my timeline. After just 1 year and 3 months after filing
for AOS, today I got a letter saying that my Permanent Resident status has been
approved. We just had the interview and the fingerprints at the end of August and
it seems that everything was all right. Now I can go and get the stamp or just wait
for the actual card, but everything has been approved.

This is the timeline:

April, 20, 2000 - We got married. June 1, 2000 - Filed for AOS. Before that I was
a student under an F-1 visa and then working under a J-1 visa without the two
year requirement. June 20, 2000 - Received receipt for I-485, I-130 and Work
Permit as well as appointment to pickup Work Permit (EAD). June 28, 2000 -
Received EAD and applied and received AP. Chicago grants same-day APs. April 1,
2001 - Applied for a renewal of my EAD (A little bit less than 3 months before it
expired). June 14, 2001 - Received appointment letter to pickup EAD. June 26,
2001- Received EAD and AP. Chicago grants same-day APs. August 1, 2001 - Received
letter for appointment for August 27. August 27, 2001 - AOS Appointment and
Fingerprints. We were sent to the Fingerprinting facility just after the
Interview since I didn't received a previous appointment, so I had to wait for
the Fingerprints to clear to get my stamp. Sep 17, 2001 - Received letter saying
that the status of Permanent Residence had been granted, that I could go and get
my stamp or just wait for the card.

Total time: Only 1 year and 3 months!!. I think it's almost a record for Chicago.

I think we were really lucky, I hope this means that things are really improving at
the INS. Also, thank you very much to everybody who answered my questions, I
wouldn't survived the wait without this newsgroup eventhough it was a really short
wait!!, it was great to know what was going on pretty much everywhere.

Sincerely,

Gabriel

Did your letter tell you you had to fill out an I-89? Just curious of that's standard
or just us.

Yes she's sure, but you aren't.

A conditional permanent resident is a permanent resident!

Andy.

Betastar,

No, the letter doesn't mention anything about an I-89. This is what it says:

"Dear Sir or Madam. Please be advised that you have been granted permanent resident
alien status as of Sep 12, 2001. This letter should not be regarded as proof of
that status. You are being processed for an alien registration card which will be
mailed to you at the above address within the next few months. If you move from
that address prior to receiving the card, please notify this office by mail of your
new address. If you require proof of your status in order to travel, accept
employment or other reason, you may come to one of our offices listed below for a
temporary stamp. Bring this letter and your passport with you"

There are no addresses listed below, just in the letterheard and that's
it.

Gabriel

Thanks. I guess they may have misplaced our I-89. Another trip to Charlotte... whee!
