AOS approval - stamp and green-card questions

Hello all !
Well, today I got home from a long day on campus and opened the mailbox to find a
letter from the INS addressed to Reinhard. =))
Of course, I ran inside and we quickly ripped the thing open
Now I'm slightly confused about one part of the letter, which says:
"Also, a form I-89 needs to be completed for you before we can order your alien
registration card. Be sure to inform the Information Office to complete the
I-89 for you."
Now, isn't the I-89 the card he put a print on, front and back, and signed, front and
back, when we had our interview on the 5th?
And how the heck do we "inform the Information Office" when they don't give us
anything to inform them with??
I know that this, like most letters, is mostly a form-letter. But now I'm somewhat
concerned they lost his I-89 card or something.
I guess we're heading back to Charlotte sometime soon to get this ball rolling.
(Note it also says "You should not travel outside the United States before receiving
your card unless you have first received a passport endorsement from this Service
office indicating that your card is being processed." - he'll want the stamp in case
of the need to travel in an emergency anyway... But we were told at the interview
that the letter itself was enough for employment and travel - I was skeptical then,
and moreso now!)

What is that letter for ? Is there a subject line that states the purpose of this
letter from the INS ? It seems like the apparent loss of the I-89 is a subject that
comes under "Also ...etc."

the original post... we had our interview on the 5th, and were waiting for the
fingerprints to clear.)

Their reminder is just that a reminder. The I-89 should be sent once your passport is stamped and/or the case is approved. But as you know from our case, this is not always the case. Get the stamp and verbally remind them to mail the I-89.
Rita
PS If they needed a new I-89 they would have told you to bring another photo.

At least this is a small mercy, especially with a date of approval to boot; better
than the INS completely forgetting that you appeared for the AoS (as it had happened
in the NYC case of Rete).
