Default AOS approval Charlotte NC (long)

Hi all,

Just wanted to give you all a update on our status in hopes the info will
benefit others out there going through the same process.

We had our AOS interview in Charlotte NC on Tues 3/04/03 at 8:45 AM. The
INS officer (a elderly gentleman) took us into a small room (no video
camera was evident). He was very somber and business like. He asked our
names, how we met, when and where we first met in person, then asked for a
copy of my I-130 approval document. We advised that we had never received
any such approval document, he said that is normal not to have recieved
one. He then started looking in his files and seemed to be reviewing the
I-130 for what seemed to be income qualifications and checking off the
related papers required for the I-130. It seemed to us that this was the
first time he had ever laid eyes on the file, and as he went through the
papers he randomly asked questions, like, my birthdate, my birth place, my
parents names, and their spelling. He at three different times asked us
the date we were married, and he asked when was the last time I entered the
USA from Canada. We openly offered different information about when and
where we married, what we did, as it was just at the local magistrates
office here in town, and we tried to just openly talked about daily things
to help to instill we knew each other and were comfortable together and not
strangers. He asked for pictures and all we had was a CD which we had
burned that we brought for them to keep with the few pics that we have. We
explained that because my family is all home in Canada all our pics are
taken with a digital camera so they can be emailed home to family, he was
not too pleased about that. He then asked for proof of dating like emails,
letters etc, I said that I did have that sort of thing but never thougth
that would be something that they would want, and there was no indication
on the letter we recieved that letters/emails was something they would
accept for evidence, besides the fact that given the very personal nature
of things like that I would not use them anyhow. I then supplied all sort
of other things, like jount bank account, lease, phone, utility bills and
such and that seemed to appease him. Finnally after about 1 1/2 hour he
said we were approved Yaaaaayyyyy!!!
But....for some reason, someone forgot to run my criminal background checks
so they were not able to stamp my passport, so I am still waiting for yet
another letter telling me to come in for my stamp, and hopefully that wont
be too long being as we are moving to FL in 3 weeks and are really hoping
to get the stamp before we go, to save allot of trouble.

Anyhow, just a big thanks to all of you for your support and advice along
the way, this is a great group and all your help has been tremendous and we
all couldn't do it with out you.

Another note to this....a girl I work with then asked me the next day if I
would mind talking to a friend of hers who was going for her AOS interview
in a few days also as she was nervous and wanted to know some things they
were asking and wondered if it would be ok if this friend could call me. I
said sure anything to help out someone going through the same thing right?
THEN......I find out that her friends marriage is not a legal one, that
they are only married so this guy can stay here and that they dont live
together, have not consumated the marriage and its totally bogus...I was so
upset and told her I would not feel comfortable helping her friend under
the circumstances. I just can't believe her even having the nerve to ask
this of me after what people who are honestly truly in love have to go
throught to be together and then some slimeballs like that just ruin things
for the good people.
