I met Corey online. We met in person in Aug 2002, and we'd spent so much time talking on our web-cams, it felt like we'd known each other for years. (After the very first five minutes of standing and looking shyly at each other at the train station like two silly schoolkids, of course!!!

Cory and I met on an online rp game. At the time, I had no idea what a "multiplayer" game was, so I thought I'd try it out. After a few weeks I bumped into Cory in a game. At first, I felt it would never work out, because he was in Canada and I was in the US... yet our relationship grew. Soon we were best friends. I know it sounds crazy, but we felt the love even before we met in person. Love 'before' first sight. ![Big Grin](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Mark and I met online at Udate.com in Feb 2002. We couldn't meet in person until Sept 2002, but we knew pretty much immediately that this was IT. While we didn't get engaged until after we met in person, Mark brought over his docs in case we ultimately decided to do the K-1 -- we didn't want to delay the process if possible.
We were engaged in October, and a year ago yesterday our I-129F petition was approved. A year ago -- wow! It was the day before I flew home from a visit to England, and I can still remember seeing the "approved" notice on the INS site!
Like many of you, probably, even though we started out online and our relationship is still relatively young, we already feel like old married fuddy-duddies! It's a wonderful feeling, no?![Smile](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Meantime in between we did ICQ chat all during our workdays (are people supposed to work at work? LOL! ) and daily phone calls amounting to $600+ a month in phone cards.
Not the cheapest courting I've ever done but she's worth every penny! Rest of my timeline is in my signature.
So YES, people do meet online. I know many happily married for years and years who met online originally.
It does happen.
But like bankruptcy lawyers will tell you:
Many people do it, but few ever discuss it openly so you think you're the unusual case. You're NOT!

I signed up for a membership at BigZoo (http://www.bigzoo.com) so I could ring the UK for really cheap. The membership is only 75c/month, and a call to the UK is only about 3.5c/min. We still use the service to ring Mark's family back home from time to time.
They have really good rates for US-based calls to other countries, too. I recommend this service, the phone quality is clear and I rarely had any problems getting through. If I ever did have problems connecting but was charged anyway, BigZoo always refunded me after I emailed them about it.

Add Cathy and I to the list- we met online in a Terra.es chatroom in Aug 2000 and got to know each other for 4 months or so, until I flew to Spain and we met in person, spending 2 weeks traveling Spain.
Best thing that ever happened to me in my life.

I moderate a site called www.datingadviceforums.com I'd set up an online ad to look at internet dating as it's talked about a lot on the forums for that site.
Steve sent me a note. I ignored it. He sent me another. I ignored it. Then I started talking to him and then ignored him for a couple of months. After than I relented, we chatted on the phone, then he got on a plane and came over. We visited each other quite a few times and then decided to get hitched so here we are.
My record phone bill for one month was €1200. He doesn't have sound on his laptop so we rely on phones a lot.

Met my fiance online. The 6 months of talking daily by email definitely helps cut through the small talk when you finally meet. Forget all the "what do you do.....blah, blah" conversations!
Our case isn't as rare as I thought judging by the other responses!! Good for all of us!

Nope! I must be part of the minority here. LOL I met my fiance in person while I was on vacation in Turkey. We don't even keep in touch via computer - no email, chatting, webcam - only the telephone is keeping us in touch. And a few Fed Ex's :-)
I've made lots of friends on the net, though, I think it's a great way to meet people as long as you're careful. Any of the men I have met on line over the years could have been potential Mr. Right....they just weren't....but Sadegh was :-)))

We met online, in the Tenacious D chat room of all places! I was in there getting advice about bidding for TD concert tickets on ebay. I got the tickets, and I got Paul! ![Smile](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
When we met in person for the first time we were so comfortable together. I didn't feel as though I was meeting a 'stranger' at all, it was like I was meeting somebody I hadn't seen for a long time.
Initially neither of us thought our relationship could possibly work - with me living in the UK and Paul living in the US, but it soon became very clear to both of us that we were meant to be together. I moved to the US and we were married in October 2003.
Thanks Tenacious D!
Dawn

Yes, yes! I'm proud to say I met my husband online ... and through work!
Mark and I both work for companies that mutually have Harley-Davidson as a client. He works for a printing company in England, I work for a graphic design firm in Wisconsin. We both work on the Harley Owners Group magazine, Hog Tales ... his company produces the European market's version and my company designs the magazine for the US market. As the process goes every other month, my company designs and produces the US version, then, once complete, we provide our files to Mark's printing company in the UK so they can produce the EU versions, which require translations into six different languages. The translation times were causing a slow down on the EU magazines being produced so a procedure was put into effect Feb 03 where Mark and I were assigned to be liasons between our companies to send US files out for translation as soon as each page was approved rather than waiting until the entire US version was complete.
And then there was magic!
As we communicated through our emails something clicked and each email became a bit more personal ... which led to our personal emailing taking place solely after business hours, then nightly phone calls, then our first in-person meeting in June 03. We were instantly comfortable with each other as others have mentioned. Our first embrace at Gatwick felt like we were being reunited with our long-lost soul mate rather than a first-time meeting. Absolute magic and unforgettable.
Things progressed after I left the UK and Mark came to visit me here in Milwaukee during Harley's 100th Anniversary in Sept. (work-related trip, yeah, right!
) and he proposed the day after we attended my friend's wedding in Minneapolis! We were married on his next visit to the US in Oct and now we are patiently taking the steps necessary for him to be able to move here so we can enjoy a day-to-day life together.
I'm sorry!! I realize I got a bit wordy ... I've really been looking forward to telling our story. Thanks to anyone who made it through!![Big Grin](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
