Default anybody knows what is causing delay in getting packet # 3 from mumbai consulate

Hi everybody k3 group

MY sisters k3 timeline is : 1st NOA AUG.6th 2002----- 2nd NOA NOV. 22 2002 from MSC.------ Letter from NVC on DEC.12th k3 petition sent to mumbai consulate.

since then her husband did not received Packet # 3 i.e. application package from mumbai consulate. it has been almost 23 days passed since she received letter form NVC.

Does anybody know what might be causing this delay or should we call mumbai consulate from here.On 2nd NOA it says this petition expires in march after the approval in NOV , anybody knows what does this mean.please advice .

1. They are usually backed up to the teeth at this consulate.
2. They may be now waiting for the full security check results before
proceeding with anything, as I understand it.
3. The US citizen spouse can renew the petition by sending her a
notarized letter to that effect to take to the consular interview.

Hi,

My husband in US has a letter from the NVC that the K3 details emailed on 11th December but Mumbai consulate still does have the details - as per the inquiry on the phone.

Lets hope they are back from holidays and we hear something in a weeks time. Maybe all of us whose applications might be sitting in one folder should hear from them soon

I have been waiting over 200 days for Packet #3 for my fiancee on a K1 visa.
23 days sounds really short to me.

Once we got approval from INS, it took mumbai consulate only 2-3 weeks to send the packet #3. Once we sent back the checklist and biographic stuff they gave us an interview in one month.

This in a sense was fast service, but we paid for the speedy service with an administrative review after the interview for over 4 months. We did get the visa finally.

What I think is going on for the long delays for the packet #3 is the security checks prior to the interview. I think they are delaying so they can do checks before hand vs after the interview.

I would rather wait for the checks before the interview than waiting afterwards.

Ouch! 200 days is ridiculous! Is your case on admin review or
something? What consulate are you dealing with?

Hi brent 346,

which consulate are your fiancee going through? because 200 days wait for packet #3 is a very long period.

In my case from mumbai consulate my wife received packet # 3 within 5 days after i received letter from NVC that my petition is sent to mumbai consulate.

In my sister case it has been 24 days and her husband still waiting for packet # 3 . I dont know what is going on there.

please reply

Hi Kumar,
Was lucky to get throught the Mumbai consulate few minutes ago and they have registered my case in the computer and the packet 3 may be received by next week.
The date NVC forwarded the deatisl to Mumbai consulate was on 11th December and my husband received a letter around 18th or 20th December 2002.
So things are moving. Hang on and your relative will also hear something soon.

Hi Kumar,
Got the details of the case no. on the telephone and have collected the packet 3 across the counter and will submit that tomorrow. Forms for K3 comprise of DS-156, DS 230 Part 1.
Have seen some people in que fill DS-156 K and to be on the safe side will fill and take it along. Will submit forms tomorrow.
As there is no personalised checklist to be submitted one can also download the forms from the internet and directly go and submit them over the counter, that will be much faster and work can be completed in one visit.
Other papers given are cover letter, checklist (not to be submitted), notice for immigrant visa applications.
Counter opens at 8.30 am and the que starts from around 07.00 am. Thats my observation.

200 Days! If I were you, I'd be contacting them about this. I just took a call from one of my K-1 petitioners today, whose fiancée will be processing through Mumbai.

His petition was approved at the CSC on 10/18/02 (that was the notice date on his approval notice). The actual notice arrived to my office on 10/26/02, and I immediately sent my fax and shipment to Mumbai (plus sent the affi pack to the petitioner for him to forward to her).

According to my client today on the phone, his fiancée received her packet 3 from the Consulate on 01/04/03, and she's already sent her reply back to Mumbai.

For this post, this seems like a pretty typical turn around time from the approval date at the Service Center, to arrival of packet 3 to the beneficiary (The client called a few days before 01/04/03, worried she had not received it yet. I asked him to hang tight for a few more days as I thought it was not unusual that she had not received it yet, but that I thought she would be getting it any day now… which she did).

Dipty

I will advise if I get any update (actually my fiancee)on the
interview date.

Two things to note:

1. One of the persons on this board had the interview "PREPONED" from
mid to early February....That was a pleasant surprise

2. Do NOT expect interview date in the mail. My buddy's fiancee in
Mumbai never got PACKET 4, but had to check for interview date via web
site for Mumbai consulate. Mail has a tendency to get lost in India
!!!

3. When we submitted Packet 3 on Jan 8, they said "also check the
website on Jan 15, Jan 30 and Feb 15. Your interview date will appear
within a month and your interview will be within two months".

A FEW QUESTIONS FOR YOU:

Has your spouse/fiancee gone through the interview ? If yes, what
questions were asked etc etc. ?

Also, if the interview hasn't taken place yet, are you planning to be
in Mumbai on the interview date ?

Hi Darren,
I am from Mumbai and will be appearing for the interview. My husband will not be here at that time in March. He plans to come down in April and we want to get this visa stuff through before that.
I will keep checking the Mumbai consulate sirte and keep you posted on development.
