Re: Alvena's site
Some lawyers complained to her State's bar association that she was giving
legal advice on the website. It was one of those she's probably in the right
but are you going to try and fight it issues. Luckily a lawyer who saw
things a little clearer offered to host the site.

In our for what it's worth column: the Kentucky Bar Association informed
me that they would take no action on the case. So there was nothing to
fight. I suspect that they decided not to take action because (1) I took
down the site temporarily until I could get their response to my
response, and (2) Immigration law is federal law and therefore not under
state jurisdiction anyway.
It was at about this time that Doc Steen offered to host the site, and
he is now the legal owner. Let me add that I made no money off of this
change of ownership, it was merely a way for the site to remain up and
give me peace of mind. The site is no longer being maintained, so the
value of the information there is very questionable at this point. I
asked Doc to take the site down but he said he wanted it to remain up.
As I am not the owner, there's not much I can do about that.
=====
However, let me add that there is nothing in the law that says that you
have to be a lawyer to offer immigration advice:
Read this page:
http://www.immigration.gov/graphics/lawsregs/advice.htm
Where it says, among other things,
"You may be able to get free or low-cost legal assistance or advice from
immigrant support groups and other community service organizations in
your area."
Further, in the 8 CFR, it states at this URL that you can actually
appear before an immigration judge with representation by *any*
reputable individual (not that I would recommend this, but it's in the
law):
http://frwebgate4.access.gpo.gov/cgi...ocID=642266263
82+1+0+0&WAISaction=retrieve
TITLE 8--ALIENS AND NATIONALITY
CHAPTER I--IMMIGRATION AND NATURALIZATION SERVICE, DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
PART 292--REPRESENTATION AND APPEARANCES--Table of Contents
Sec. 292.1 Representation of others.
(a) A person entitled to representation may be represented by any of
the following:
[->info snipped for brevity]
(3) Reputable individuals. Any reputable individual of good moral
character, provided that:
(i) He is appearing on an individual case basis, at the request of
the person entitled to representation;
(ii) He is appearing without direct or indirect renumeration and
files a written declaration to that effect;
(iii) He has a pre-existing relationship or connection with the
person entitled to representation (e.g., as a relative, neighbor,
clergyman, business associate or personal friend), provided that such
requirement may be waived, as a matter of administrative discretion, in
cases where adequate representation would not otherwise be available;
and
(iv) His appearance is permitted by the official before whom he
wished to appear (namely, a special inquiry officer, district director,
officer-in-charge, regional commissioner, the Commissioner, or the
Board), provided that such permission shall not be granted

It is good to see you again. You are sorely missed in this forum and your former one and it is sad, indeed, to venture into the Doc Steen site and see the deterioration of the messageboard into one where there is much verbal abuse and misinformation abounding.
I have read your post with interest and have copied the pertinent references to bookmark.
Hope all is well with you and your family and that life in Kentucky has gotten better ;-)

Hi Alvena,
I have just returned to the group, currently getting ready for that AOS
thing. I was wondering where you were hiding. It is good see see you back.
Needless to say you, Rete, Andy, Grinch and others have helped my husband
and myself get through the whole I-130 process.
A lot has changed with the immigration process as well, so busy trying to
play catch up.
I hope all is going well for you and yours.
Kind regards,
Lisa (B)-USC

Were it only true! I have had a horrible year. It all started last year
when my heartbeat started kicking up. Then I had reflux esophagitis for
literally MONTHS (those who have not had this, get down on your knees
and thank GOD right now!!!). Now I'm seeing a GI doc in St. Louis who
finds my reflux is fine but my liver function tests are abnormal. Go
figure. Just had a CT scan a coupla days ago and four tubes of blood
tests that I've never heard of before, will find out at the end of the
month what that showed. (hopefully nothing).
I think my Karma is failing me! Help!!

We live about 25 miles from the point where the Ohio and Mississippi
Rivers meet. It's a town that's about halfway between Monkey's Eyebrow
and Possum Trot. It is probably the biggest town almost halfway between
St. Louis and Nashville, located right on I-24. See if you can figure
out where this is. I don't think we are anywhere near Scott County,
however.

ok for you.
You and Rete and others were a great help for many many people like
me, who wanted to join their loved ones. I really wish you all the

Any and all prayers accepted, no matter what the source. I truly need
all the help I can get. The esophagitis has finally calmed down, which
is fortunate since the doc says I am not to take any medications of any
kind until he gets all these blood test and CT reports together and
cogitates over them. I truly am feeling better at the moment, and have
decided that one must enjoy each moment that he/she gets, because you
truly do not know what tomorrow may bring.
