Affidavits of Support - why need an update and what about co-sponsor?
Hi. I am one month before my interview. Came June 2005 J-1, married
September 2005, FL, called for interview middle of July. I was reading
some other ppl experiences and lots of them provides immigration
officer with "updated affidavits" - why do I need to have this one
updated?
In addition - can my best friend (who is an US citizen) file any kind
of co-sponsor (he agreed to do it, but we do not know which forms to
fill - if they are any and he is allowed to do so) - in case that
immigration officer would have problems with my wife's income, or maybe
"just in case" I should have additional sponsor, but the problem - if
it is - that he is just my friend (he owns a business) he is not in
relation with me in family meaning.
Please help. Thank you.

That said, for some reason you want to have a joint sponsor anyway, yes, your friend can fill out an I-864 and provide his most recent tax return, W-2, employment letter, and perhaps pay stubs. Your friend must be a USC or PR, and must reside in the USA.
Best Wishes,
Rene

Curious to hear the result of the interview. The OP is asking about the AOS and the J-1 and yet he arrived in June 2005 on a J-1 and married and applied for change of status only 3 months later in September 2005. Wonder if the adjudicating officer will find this odd and feel that the J-1 was used to circumvent proper immigration channels.
