Does anyone know if there is a proper format for affidavits from friends that one
would bring to and AOS interview, or can it be any kind of letter with a notarized
signature?
Thanks!

Are these letters really necessary?
I haven't been reading of recent AOS experiences asking for them. Ours is next week
and we don't really know of people who would be going to the bank or somewhere to get
a letter notarized.
I do have a couple of personal letters sent to us yesterday with our names on them.
We could ask neighbors to sign some letters and then we could take a sworn
statement as was written when we filed the I-129F, stating that the letters are
from actual people.

These are NOT necessary. They are one of the many things you can provide as proof of
a legitimate marriage.
If you have a sufficient number of the other things listed on the appointment sheet
for your interview, joint bank records, leases, loans etc. you do not need to bother
your friends by requesing these.
