Hi all,

I want to apply for my temporary EAD and have a few questions to ask.

I've recently arrived in the US on a K1 visa. According to the USCIS, our discrict office is Detroit - a good several hours drive away, so walking in and filing is not an option. I've looked at the electronic form and they request a $120 fee for this 90 day EAD.

Would I be able to file via the mail and not pay the $120 fee?

Has anyone done this?

Yet people have been able to get the 90 day EAD on a K1 visa without paying a cent - so how does one do this without actually going to the district office in person?

Clare,

All EADs are temporary.

According to the instructions for the I-765 if you have yet to file I-485 for AOS (you don't say in your post), you file with your service center, not with your local office, and you are required to pay the $120 fee.

You can E-file.

K1s who get an EAD on entry at the POE do not pay the fee.

There may be some more details that I am not aware of.
