Default Zimbabwe

What a joy it is to see the Zimbabwe people out on the street celebrating the long overdue 'resignation' of Mugabe. Some good news to enjoy

Structurally nothing changes. It still remains an authoritarian state, with one dictator about to be replaced by another, who will continue protect the entrenched interests of Zanu-PF.

Zim is just 'Animal Farm' personified...

The people on the streets appear to have a different outlook.

I heard an apt description of the situation yesterday, it compared it to a snake shedding it's skin, new skin, same snake.

Obviously Zim won't be changed in a day, a month or a year. But it's the end of a cynical old regime and the start of a new chapter. Plenty of articulate hopeful people on the streets, it's a young population, time to be positive not negative.

They should probably save most of their celebrations until they discover what the next regime looks like.

Yup an internal renewal of Zanu PF.

I did see an interview with a young Zanu PF MP who had worked in New York for 10 years. He didn't seem too bad.

It's like China or Russia. Essentially a one party nation with some ineffective opposition groups because they have no control over the army or police.

I wonder if it will get better when the last proper war veteran dies?

I actually thought a bloody coup would have been better in the long term with Zanu PF splitting and having to compete more for the people.

Anyway we'll see how it unfolds.
