The Yukon

Does anyone know where I can find some good websites about The yukon that preferably aren't tourist related. I used to have one saved to my favourits beofre my mother board decided to frazzel up. It had information about local governemt and comunity ect. Also does anyone on hear have any experiences of The Yukon, I'd love to hear some real honest oppinions about the place* (good or bad) because all I can seem to find at the moment is tourist board stuff, not exactly un biased. There isn't too much in the Wiki on hear either, I think maybe one brief over veiw.
*I mean just genrely, how did you find living in the climate, been in such a remote place, prices and tax, employment ect, the usual stuff.
Anyhelp or suggestions at all would be like gold dust-no pun intended-right now. Thank you all in advanced, I love BE and want to marry it (would that be possible?)

PS I posted this in the wrong place :headdesk: I should just give up now! Sorry!

I think one of The Canes (Mr) has been or is about to go to the Yukon on business so you could ask them seeing as you are short on answers.
Are you thinking of moving there? Its a place we would like to visit in the summer of course!!

It's definatley one of the places I am investigating moving to, right at the begining of investigating, but I'm making a profile of the place non the less. So far I like what I see!

Spent a little time in the Yukon, the Watson Lake area. Very long winters and short summers compared to southern Ontario...not forgetting lots of black flies etc June/July. Never spent a winter there but from what I was able to gather, you have to be pretty resiliant (as an outsider not having experienced that long a winter). A combination of Cabin fever and a fondness for the devil drink are potential pitfalls.
As for such as Whitehorse (about 5 hours drive 'northish) life I am told in Winter at any rate, is a little more tolerable.
Lots of research prior to such a move is a must and I feel a couple of trips to check it out in both summer and winter would be sensible.
Hope that helps.

Found this book about the journey there by a Brit in an airport departure lounge once http://www.eye-books.com/thegoodlife/home.htm. Couldn't say whether it is accurate or true but it makes a good read.
